Trevor Lloyd has provided strategic and legal advice for more than three decades in shipping, insurance, defence, engineering and technology. With a proven track record in negotiation, critical thinking and an intimate understanding of commercial law, he provides critical support to clients to safeguard their business.

As a commercial law practitioner Trevor has comprehensive experience in prominent and influential law firms, complemented by 10 years-plus as a managing partner (CEO). His breadth of experience covers:

During an extensive career, Trevor has provided a range of services including complex strategic and legal advice on commercial negotiation and dispute resolution, change management and governance support.

He has excelled in managing partner roles of significant law firms including Rigby Cooke Lawyers, TressCox and Holding Redlich. Additionally, as a board director, his considerable exposure to diverse industries was through ThyssenKrupp of Germany, AXA, Bell Helicopter, Members Equity, Ansvar Insurance, the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority and the International Gas Transportation Company – a shipping group – during work on the North West Shelf Project.

He has also been made chairman of a computer design business, a law firm and a government working group.

In each of these contexts, Trevor has offered critical advice, particularly in relation to business management, the sale and acquisition of businesses, issues relating to defence engineering projects and human resources, tendering and contracting arrangements, and consortium relationships for substantial projects.
Notably, he was private secretary for the Commonwealth Attorney General in 1983, general counsel for the corporate regulator in the early 1990s, and for AXA Asia Pacific in the early 2000s.

Trevor holds a Bachelor of Arts in pure mathematics from the Australian National University, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Melbourne and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Notable roles and contract negotiations

  • Defence equipment, including frigates, mine hunters, hydrographic ships, helicopters, armoured vehicles and other technology for the Australian defence forces, always representing a supplier
  • Infrastructure, including refinery and gas technology, the fast train project, modernisation of the MCG, the Docklands stadium in Melbourne, information technology and low-cost community housing
  • Privatisation of state insurance businesses and the Victorian electricity and gas industries
